Vent: My promotion to supervisor in Dallas backfired after 4 months

I got promoted to shift supervisor at my warehouse in Dallas back in March. I was pumped, thought I knew the job since I had been there for 2 years. But 4 months in, I realized I was doing everyone else's work and not my own. I was covering breaks, fixing their mistakes, staying late. My numbers tanked and the general manager pulled me aside and said I wasn't cutting it. I had to relearn how to delegate, even when the other guys gave me attitude. Now I finally get my own tasks done and the team runs smoother, but it took a near demotion to figure it out. Has anyone else had that shift where you stop being the helper and start being the boss? How long did it take you to adjust?

You are dead wrong about this one. The whole point of being a supervisor is to make sure the work gets done, not to do it yourself. Covering breaks and fixing mistakes for four months is on you, not the team. You should have set the boundary on day one, even if that meant a few angry faces. The fact that it took a near demotion to learn basic delegation just proves you weren't ready for the role in the first place.
