The 40 hour job hunt stat that hit me from a random LinkedIn post

Saw a post last Tuesday from a recruiter in Austin. They broke down how the average person spends 40 hours on the initial application process alone. Not interviews. Not prep. Just filling out forms and tailoring resumes. That hit me because I spent my whole Sunday rewriting cover letters for 3 roles. Got one automated rejection the next morning. Realized I was treating applications like homework instead of networking. So now I spend that time messaging 5 actual people at each company. Got 2 callbacks in 2 weeks. Anyone else burned by the form-filling trap?
