My boss told me to stop asking so many questions on my first week

Started a new data entry job last month in Portland and my manager pulled me aside day three. She said I was annoying the senior staff by asking about every little thing before doing it. So I stopped asking and just guessed. Ended up messing up a whole batch of client records and cost the company like 3 hours of fix time. She came back and said I should have asked after all. Has anyone else dealt with a boss who gives you opposite advice depending on their mood?

Can you believe people like that? I once spent a whole Saturday helping my neighbor move furniture, and she got mad because I didn't offer to buy lunch first. Some folks just can't be pleased no matter what you do.
