Got passed over for a lead spot after 3 years because my old boss never wrote down what I did
So I found out last Tuesday that they gave the team lead job to a guy who started 8 months after me, and I'm still kind of steamed about it. Here's the setup: I was at my desk in the Austin office, my manager pulls me into the little room by the printer and tells me the panel went with someone else. Fine, whatever, but then she says the feedback was that my impact was hard to pin down. Hard to pin down. I ran the client migration back in 2021 that saved us about $60k a year, I trained every new hire on the ticketing system, and I never missed a deadline in three years. The problem is my old boss quit in March and he never put any of that in writing, so in the review system it all just looks like I showed up. I spent that whole week after pulling emails and Slack threads to build my own little folder of proof, which honestly felt pathetic but it worked, because HR reopened my case and bumped me up a level. Now I keep a running doc where I log what I shipped every Friday, takes 10 minutes. My real issue is I still don't know if I should stay after being told my work didn't count. Has anyone else had to basically prove their own job to their own company?
