Was skeptical about the whole "cancel culture" thing until I saw my favorite YouTuber get nuked overnight

I used to think people were overreacting about cancel culture. But back in March, a small creator I followed for 4 years named Jessie made a dumb joke about packaging waste. The joke was bad but not evil. Within 48 hours, 3 major sponsors dropped her and she lost over 20k subscribers. She apologized twice and it didn't matter. That made me realize how fast the mob moves and how little proof they need. Has anyone else seen a creator get cancelled for something small that you thought was blown way out of proportion?

I remember when a knitting channel I followed for 6 years, "Stitch by Stitch with Karen", got hit hard last October. She posted a video where she accidentally used a copyrighted Disney character in a pattern she was teaching, and the comments section turned into a mob screaming about theft and moral failure. She lost about 15,000 subscribers in a week and had to take a two month break from posting. The company that held the copyright never even contacted her, it was all just fans getting angry on behalf of someone else. It convinced me that the punishment rarely fits the crime anymore.

Watching Jessie go down really changed how I look at online drama. The thing that helped me was stepping back and not engaging with the mob. I actually stopped watching the drama videos and reading comments about her. I posted a short supportive message on her community tab just saying I liked her content and hoped she was okay. That small act of kindness felt better than getting worked up about it. A few other long time fans did the same and she actually came back two months later with a normal video. The silence from the sensible people made more of a difference than the noise from the mob.
