Pro tip: I started using a cheap shower cap for my camp stove.

Keeps the burner clean from pine needles and dirt when it's packed. Saw it on a forum for a trip to the Sawtooths last year. Anyone else have a weird but effective piece of gear like that?

My buddy from the Colorado Trail section hike last summer uses a plastic sour cream container lid for his stove. He just snaps it right over the burner head before it goes in the cook pot. It's the perfect size and it costs nothing if you already buy the stuff. That shower cap idea is just as clever for bigger stoves. It's wild how the best fixes are usually the cheapest things you already have at home.
