TIL that cheap $18 hot air station from the flea market actually reflows BGA chips better than my $300 one
I grabbed it at a swap meet in Dallas 6 months ago thinking it was junk, but when my Hakko died mid job on a Nikon D800 board, it saved the repair. The temp readout is off by about 40F so you have to watch the joint, but it got the job done. Anyone else running a no name station and just working around the quirks?
So the temp being off by 40F, is that across the whole range or does it drift more when you crank it up past 600? Mine reads low at the bottom but seems to catch up once it gets hot, which makes me wonder if it's the thermocouple or just the cheap board. Curious how yours behaves because that would tell me if it's worth cracking open to fix.
