Old timer told me to soak a stuck Compur shutter in lighter fluid for 2 hours
Tried it on a beat-up 1950s Prontor from a junk shop and the thing actually freed up and fired clean on the first test, has anyone else had that actually work or did I just get lucky?

Three years ago I would've laughed at anyone suggesting lighter fluid for a shutter repair. Tried it myself on a seized Compur from a 1930s Agfa and it fired the first time after a two hour soak. Wish I'd known this trick sooner honestly.

Tried that trick on a sticky Wollensak shutter from a 1940s folder a few years back. Worked like a charm after a 90 minute soak, but I noticed the aperture blades started acting weird about two weeks later. Turns out the lighter fluid can dissolve old lubricant grease but also leaves behind a residue if you don't flush it out with something like naphtha afterwards. Might be worth hitting it with a few drops of Ronsonol and blowing it dry with compressed air to be safe.
