A 3 foot service loop saved me from re-running 80 feet of RG11 in Mesa
Got called to a house in Mesa last Tuesday where the homeowner kept losing internet every time the AC kicked on. I traced it to a bad barrel connector buried in the wall plate, but here's the thing, the last guy left zero slack so I had to cut it back twice. Started leaving a 3 foot loop coiled behind every single gang box now, and that call went from a 4 hour re-run job to a 20 minute fix. Any of you run into plates with no slack and what do you do when there's nothing left to work with?
A 3 foot coil behind every box sounds like a lot of extra wire when most of these plates have maybe an inch of play to begin with. I've pulled plenty of RG11 in Mesa and the truth is a bad barrel connector is a 10 minute swap, the slack just makes it easier on your back. Not saying it's wrong, just seems like you're fixing one bad job with a habit that costs you time on every other one.
