Spline slot mishap on a maple door, fixed it with a shop-made jig

Last tuesday I was cutting spline slots for a shaker door in my garage shop and my router bit walked on me, tore out a chunk of the stile edge. I panicked for a sec cause that was a $450 slab of maple I already stained matched. Grabbed a scrap piece of 3/4 ply, cut a slot guide with the same bit, clamped it dead on and reran the cut. Cleaned it up with a chisel and glued the chip back, barely visible now. Anyone else had a jig save a costly piece mid-disaster, or do you just remake the part?

Did you save the router bit after that, or did it get tossed in the junk drawer? Cause that bit might be the real problem here, not just the jig.
