Rant: I stopped trusting the rep's speed pitch and started testing business lines myself with a $30 tool
Two years ago I signed a 3 year deal in Portland for a 500 Mbps line based on what the sales guy promised, and by month four my team of 12 was crawling every afternoon. Now I run my own speed and latency checks for a week at the same time of day before I sign anything, which killed a sweet sounding fiber offer last month because the upload speeds tanked at 2pm. Anyone else do their own testing first, or do you just go off the provider's numbers and hope for the best?
Testing at the same time each day is smart, but you should also log packet loss and jitter, not just raw speed. A line can hit 500 megs and still feel awful if it's dropping packets during peak hours.
