A sales guy told me his fiber quote had a 40% markup and now I'm questioning my whole contract
I was at a small business meetup in Denver last Tuesday and ended up talking to a guy who sells business internet for a living. He straight up said the quote he hands out for fiber has about a 40% cushion built in, and his manager tells him to drop the price if the customer pushes back twice. I signed a 3 year deal for my print shop back in January at $389 a month and I never even asked for a lower number. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I left a few thousand dollars on the table just because I was too shy to negotiate. The contract has 14 months left, so I can't do much right now, but I want to be ready when it ends. Has anyone here actually talked a provider down from their first quote, and how low did they go?
Read somewhere that business fiber pricing is kinda like buying a car, the first number is almost never the real number. Sounds like hitting them with the whole "I'm comparing other quotes" line gets you way further than just asking nicely. For next time, worth getting a few bids and letting them fight it out.
