Cut off my best friend of 12 years over $300 and a guy at his wedding told me why
My best friend and I ran a little lawn care thing on the side for two summers in Grand Rapids, and when we split up he kept $300 that was mine. I ended the friendship over text and blocked him for 8 months, felt pretty good about it too. Then a mutual friend's wedding put us at the same table, and this older guy next to me asked what happened, and when I finished explaining he just shrugged and goes 'so you threw out 12 years to win an argument about 300 bucks.' That hit me in a weird way, not because he was right that I should forgive him, but because I realized I never once told my friend why I was actually mad, I just dropped the money thing like it was the reason. The money was real, but the thing that stung was him acting like the summer work meant nothing to him. I unblocked him about 5 weeks back and we talked for two hours, and we are not friends again, but at least now he knows what the fight was really about. Curious if anyone here ended a friendship and later figured out they were mad about the wrong thing.
