Appreciation post: I stopped decorating my weekly spread and my journal finally works
For two years I treated every weekly spread like a scrapbook, washi tape, colored pens, little doodles in the margins. Then one Sunday I sat at my kitchen table in Tulsa and spent 90 minutes just making the boxes look nice, and I never once checked the thing again all week. My old notebooks are full of pretty pages with zero tasks marked off, and that is when it hit me. The fancy stuff was me avoiding the actual work of deciding what matters today. Now my spreads are black pen only, and I get more done in a week than I used to in a month. Anyone else ditch the art supplies and feel kind of guilty about it at first?
I used to roll my eyes at posts like this, honestly. I had a whole drawer of Mildliners and stamps and I thought the cute pages were what kept me coming back. Then in January I did a plain black pen week as an experiment and actually finished my to-do list for the first time in months. The pretty stuff was fun but it made me treat the journal like a craft project instead of a tool.
