Kitchen faucet started leaking at 2 AM last Tuesday
The old Delta faucet in my apartment just let go all of a sudden. Water was pouring down into the cabinets underneath and I had to shut the main valve off. Called around to find a plumber who'd do an emergency visit, ended up paying $180 just for them to show up. Next time I'm keeping a few tools and a replacement cartridge on hand instead of waiting for a crisis.

Oh man, I dunno, paying $180 sounds cheaper than messing with plumbing yourself.

My buddy tried fixing his own sink after watching a YouTube video and flooded his whole kitchen.

Those 180 bucks likely just covered the service call fee alone, not even parts. Your buddy's story is exactly why I tell people to think twice before tackling plumbing DIY. The real question is, was the sink even a complicated model with a garbage disposal or something, or was it a basic drain and supply line setup? I ask because 90% of flooded kitchens I've heard about come from people forgetting to turn off the water supply line completely before diving in. Those little shut-off valves can be old and brittle too, one twist and you're dealing with a burst. So did your friend forget the shut-off step, or did an old valve fail on him mid-project? That detail changes everything about whose fault it really is.
