That $9 bus ticket in Mexico City turned into a 6 hour detour

Booked a cheap ADO bus from the north terminal to Puebla last Tuesday, figured I'd skip the metro crowds and save $4. The driver stopped at some random checkpoint for 2 hours, then we crawled through traffic because road work had one lane open. Anyone else had a supposedly budget route blow up their whole day plan?

Is it just me, or does every time you try to save a few bucks on transport, the universe decides you need a whole day of nothing going right? I mean, this is such a classic budget trap. You think you're being smart, skipping the fancy option, but then the cheap one costs you way more in time and stress. It's like the savings are never actually savings, they're just a gamble with your schedule. I feel like this happens everywhere, not just in CDMX, you just never know what kind of detour you're signing up for.

Is it just me, or is my wallet the only thing that's ever truly on time, @the_thea?
