Rant: a hostel host in Lisbon called my packing 'a rookies game' and he was right
I showed up at a place in Lisbon with a 40L bag stuffed with 4 pairs of shoes and he straight up laughed. He said 'you are carrying a closet, not a backpack' so I dumped half of it at a donation bin near the tram stop and did 12 days on 5 shirts. How do you all decide what actually earns a spot in the bag before you leave?
What if you flip the whole thing and pack for the trip you'd be fine repeating instead of the trip you're imagining? I used to pack for "what if we go somewhere fancy" and "what if it rains every day" and none of that ever happened. Now I think of the dumbest case, like I'm wearing the same two pants the whole time, and I only add stuff when I know the plan actually calls for it. A friend of mine brings one dress and just rinses it in the sink, and she looks better than me in every photo. The shoes are the real killer, they weigh a ton and you wear one pair like 90 percent of the time anyway.
