A guy in a hostel in Medellin showed me the grocery store hack and I've never booked a trip the same way
Back in 2018 I was staying at a hostel in Medellin and blowing $15 a day on restaurant meals like an idiot. A guy from Ireland watched me do it for three days, then walked me to a Exito supermarket two blocks away and showed me I could eat for $4 a day on bread, fruit, and whatever was marked down. I felt so dumb standing in that cereal aisle. Now the first thing I do in any new city is find the nearest grocery store before I even unpack, and I've saved probably $2,000 on trips since then. Does anyone else plan their whole food budget around the local supermarket instead of restaurants?
