Just found out rice and beans costs 60 cents a serving and I feel played by every meal kit I ever bought
A coworker did the math on her grocery run and a bag of dry pinto beans plus a 5 lb bag of rice comes out to about 60 cents a serving in Nashville, while my old HelloFresh boxes ran close to $9 a plate. I ran the numbers on my own receipts from last year and ate almost $700 of rice and beans money in meal kits alone. Anyone got a cheap protein they rotate in that does not make dinner feel like a punishment?
Wait, $700?? On meal kits alone? That is wild. I knew those boxes were pricey but seeing it as a yearly number like that really puts it in perspective, your coworker basically saved you a car payment.
For cheap protein, eggs are my go to. Fried egg on top of the beans and rice and it feels like an actual meal instead of sad survival food.
