I was wrong about that 'fast set' mortar mix for a foundation job
I mean, I bought a pallet of that RapidSet stuff for a foundation in Springfield because the schedule was tight, cost me about $350 extra. But the stuff went off way too fast in the heat, we lost a whole batch and had to scramble to get regular mix. Has anyone found a decent fast mix that actually gives you a workable window?

We used RapidSet on a hot day in Peoria last July and it was fine, just had to keep the water cool.

Yeah, cool water helps for sure, but man, trying to mix that stuff fast enough before it turns to rock is a whole other skill. Maybe it's just me but I always end up with more on my gloves and tools than in the actual hole. Makes you feel like a real pro when you're scrambling.

Cool water didn't save us, that stuff was just too risky for the crew to handle.
