Vent: I used a $3 parking app trick to dodge a $40 garage fee in Chicago
Last weekend I was in Chicago for a wedding near the Loop and the hotel garage wanted $40 a night, so I tried moving my car to a side street with a 2 hour limit and just resetting the meter on the app every 2 hours. It worked for 2 days straight and saved me $80, but my brother says I was one ticket away from it all going wrong and that it's basically the same as gambling. Is this a legit life hack or am I just getting lucky and should I feel bad about it?
Walk me through what happens when that app glitches or your phone dies mid-day. I've seen people pull this off for a weekend, but two full days means you had to be on top of it every single reset window, and one missed alarm or dead battery and you're staring at a $60 ticket plus the original $40 you were trying to dodge. What was your backup plan if the meter reset failed at like 2am? And did you actually check if those side streets near the Loop have resident permit zones or street cleaning days that would've wrecked you?
