My sister's $600 'gourmet' advice ruined our taco night
My sister swore by her expensive truffle salt and told me to sprinkle it over the ground beef after cooking. I followed her tip at our taco night in Austin, and the whole thing tasted like a weird perfume shop. The cheap salt from HEB did a better job, and now I trust my own seasoning instincts. Has anyone else had a relative give them 'fancy' cooking advice that totally backfired?

My cousin once insisted I use smoked paprika in my chili because it was "authentic Spanish" and it turned the whole pot into a campfire that somehow also tasted like bacon soap. Took three batches of cornbread to fix the mood at that Super Bowl party. I still side-eye any spice that costs more than my gas tank.

Haha, okay but hear me out! I actually love smoked paprika, though I get why it wrecked your chili if you used a heavy hand. It's more of a background player, you know, like a whisper instead of a shout. Maybe your cousin just went overboard, but I'd still take it over regular paprika any day.
