My new $80 moisture meter gave me a reading of 'bone dry' for a plant sitting in a puddle.

I was trying to figure out why my peace lily looked so sad, and after three days of trusting the meter, I finally just stuck my finger in the soil and found it was soaked (which, you know, is the opposite of dry).

Is the meter broken or did you maybe test it in a weird spot? Those things can be pretty hit or miss in my experience.

Did you ever get a reading that just made zero sense?

Yeah, it's like that with so many tools now. Lee847 is right about them being hit or miss. Feels like everything is made to be just good enough to sell, not to last or work right. You get a weird reading and you never really know if it's you, the tool, or the thing you're testing. Makes it hard to trust any single result.
