My neighbor's 'overwatering' warning turned out completely backwards

She said my droopy jade plant needed less water, so I cut it back for 2 months and it got worse, until a greenhouse worker in Portland told me the pot had no drainage and actually needed a soak, has anyone else gotten confident advice that set them back?
