Hot take: Our library book club meets in a room with a broken clock and nobody will fix it
I was at the Silver Spring library on Tuesday and noticed the wall clock has been stuck at 6:12 for three months now, so our whole discussion about chapter 7 kept getting derailed by people checking their phones. If the group moderator can spend 20 minutes arguing about whether the author is pretentious, can we please spend 30 seconds asking the front desk for a new battery?
Ha, I used to roll my eyes at stuff like this and figure a broken clock is just background noise you learn to tune out. Then my own book club moved rooms and we ended up under a clock that was a full hour off, and suddenly every meeting turned into a debate about what time it actually was. It sounds dumb until you live it, because people will check their phones and then someone mentions the time and the whole talk about the book is gone. So yeah, I'm with you now. Thirty seconds at the front desk beats twenty minutes of the moderator going on about the author's ego.
