The Tuesday that somehow gave me my best night shift in months

Usually my nights are just chaos, but two weeks ago at St. Mark's, everything lined up weird. We had this older guy with a broken hip who kept ringing for pain meds, and I was bracing for the worst. Instead, his daughter showed up with a guitar and played John Prine songs for like an hour, and the whole floor got quiet. Then my favorite patient, the one who always jokes about the hospital food, actually ate a full meal for the first time in a week and gave me a thumbs up. By 4 AM, we had three discharges prepped and not one call-light emergency. I sat in the break room for a solid five minutes just staring at the clock, waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it just never did. Has anyone else had a shift where the universe decides to give you a break for no reason at all?

Man, those rare shifts are like the universe finally remembering you exist.

Kinda makes you wonder if those shifts are just the universe paying off a debt it owes you from all the garbage ones before.
