The 15 dollar thrift store chair vs a 300 dollar ergonomic one
My back was killing me after a year of remote work so I finally broke down and bought a fancy ergonomic chair online. When it arrived it felt stiff and wrong, so I returned it and grabbed a beat up old office chair from the Salvation Army for $15. That old thing has way better lumbar support and I sit in it for 8 hours without pain now. Has anyone else had a cheap find beat out the expensive version?

That old worn-in chair fabric probably just molded to your body over time, which no new chair can really match.

Is it really that serious though, @kimmurphy? I get what you're saying about breaking in a chair, but come on, it's just foam and fabric. You can get the same feel from a new chair if you spend a little time sitting in it. People act like their old couch is a fine wine or something. It's probably full of dust mites and dead skin cells anyway, so maybe it's time for an upgrade.
