Saw a stranger hand a folded note to a crying kid at a bus stop in Cleveland, and I still wonder what it said
I was waiting for the 22 on Euclid Ave in Cleveland last Thursday when a boy, maybe 11 or 12, sat on the bench with his face in his hands, crying. He had a backpack with a broken zipper and one shoe untied. People walked past him for maybe 8 minutes like he wasn't there. Then a woman in a nurse's scrub top sat down next to him, talked quiet for a bit, wrote something on the back of a receipt, folded it, and put it in his hand. She got on the next bus and left. He read it, wiped his face, and tied his shoe. That was it. No big moment, no camera, nobody clapped. He just got up and walked toward the Rapid stop with his shoulders a little different. I've been scrolling past stuff like this for months without stopping, and this one just stuck. Now I can't stop wondering what was on that paper. Has anyone here ever had a stranger hand them a note like that, or given one? What did it say?
That nurse on Euclid Ave did more in 3 minutes than that kid probably got all week. But the note itself doesn't matter much. Whatever she wrote, he'll forget the exact words in a month. What stuck was that somebody stopped when 20 other people didn't. I've been the kid on that bench before, and I couldn't tell you a single thing the guy said to me. I just remember he sat down.
