A park sign in Denver said the average person walks past 36 homeless people a week and never looks down
I stopped on a bench near Civic Center Station last Tuesday because a laminated sign zip tied to the trash can asked me to count the faces I remembered from my walk in. I could picture exactly 2 and I had passed at least 15 people. Now I want to know if that 36 number holds up in your city or if Denver is just extra rough right now.
Man, that sign hit close to home. A buddy of mine did the same thing on his walk from Union Station to his office and he could only name one person out of the dozen or so he passed, which really messed with him for a few days. He said the worst part was realizing he had walked that same route for months and couldn't tell you a single detail about anyone he went by. I don't know if 36 is the exact right number for Denver but the point behind it sure seems true, we get real good at looking past folks without even meaning to.
