Switched from my 3 lb cross peen to a 2.5 lb rounding hammer and my shoulders stopped hurting
Unpopular opinion maybe but I think most new smiths start way too heavy on hammers. I was forging out a batch of 12 bottle openers last Saturday and my right shoulder was toast by number 4, so I grabbed my buddy's lighter rounding hammer just to finish up. Night and day, my blows were landing where I wanted instead of glancing off and I got all 12 done in about 90 minutes with no ice pack after. Anyone else make the switch down in weight and never go back?
