Old timer told me to quench in warm oil, I laughed, now I eat my words

Guy at the meet last 4th of July swore up and down that cold oil cracked my last blade, and sure enough I swapped to 130 degree canola and got a clean edge first try. Anyone else get humbled by some 70 year old who makes it look easy?

Man, I used to think that whole warm oil thing was just old timer superstition. I was dead set on cold quench because that's what every tutorial said. But after cracking three blades in a row last winter, I finally tried the 130 degree canola just to shut the guy up. It worked so clean I actually felt stupid for arguing with him for an hour at that cookout. Now I keep a thermometer by my quench tank and I don't even question it. That old dude probably forgot more about blades than I'll ever learn, and I'm just glad he didn't charge me for the lesson.
