Noticed my anvil ring change after 2 years of use

I mounted my 150 pound anvil on a new stump back when I started and the ring was sharp and loud. After about 2 years the ring got duller and lower pitched. Has anyone else had their anvil settle into a different sound over time?

... mine did the same thing actually... I figure it just needs a little more time to break in... kind of like my elbow after two years of swinging a hammer.

Have you tried wearing them around the house for a few days before really using them? That's what I did with my boots and it made a huge difference.

My buddy Marcus got these work boots last fall and tried that exact trick @milarodriguez. He wore them around his apartment for a WEEK straight, even slept in them one night by accident. Said they finally broke in when he walked to the corner store for a burrito. Now he refuses to wear anything else.
