That $400 gym membership I signed up for in January was a complete waste

Joined a fancy gym in Portland back in January thinking I'd finally get in shape. Paid $400 upfront for a full year because the sales guy swore I'd save money. It's November now and I've been there maybe 8 times total. The place is nice but I just hate driving 25 minutes each way after work. Anyone else fall for the yearly membership trap and barely use it?

Wait, are people really out here freezing memberships and making "solid plans" like this is some life or death thing? It's $400, not $4000, and you got to use a nice gym for 8 times this year. Yeah it stings a little, but it's not like you lost a kidney or something. Maybe just call it a donation to your unfulfilled New Year's resolution and move on instead of overthinking it with pauses and fall restart strategies. Honestly sounds like more effort than the gym itself.

The only way I made peace with mine was freezing the membership for three months during summer when I knew I wouldn't go. Check if your gym lets you pause it, then restart in the fall with a solid plan to actually drive there.
