My neighbor's "just paint over it" advice cost me 3 hours last Saturday
I was patching a hole in my drywall and Bob from next door comes over, says just slap some paint on it, no need for mudding. He's been doing renos for 20 years so I listened. Yeah, that hole looked like a crater after one coat. Had to scrape it all off, mud it proper, sand it down, then paint again. Took me from 9am to noon on a Saturday fixing that mess. Anyone else ever get bad advice from someone who should know better?

Bob strikes again. Some folks just hate doing things the right way the first time.

Three hours on a Saturday because Bob skipped the mud, same as every shortcut that costs double later.

That thing about shortcuts costing double later - it's so true. Buddy of mine used to work at a warehouse and they had this old loading dock that needed a ramp. Bob said nah, just stack some pallets and hop the gap. Worked for months. Then one day a pallet cracked, whole stack went sideways, smashed two brand new forklifts. Cost the company like 50 grand. Bob got fired. That shortcut ended up costing way more than just time.
