Hot take: The neighborhood coffee shop on Elm Street burned my tongue 4 times before I learned my lesson
I kept going back to Brew & Bean because it's 2 blocks from my apartment. Every single time they served me coffee so hot the cup was practically glowing. On day 4 I finally asked the barista about it and she said "our machine runs at 210 degrees, that's just how we do it." I literally felt my tongue peel for a week after that. Who in this group has had to switch spots because a place just wouldn't adjust their temperature?

Bet you never asked why the barista doesn't burn their own tongue holding the hot cup. There's a trick to it - they probably let it sit for a good minute or two before drinking.

Wait, why should they have to change their whole setup just because you didn't let it cool down first? @uma_williams is right about optimal temps, but that's for drinking, not brewing. Baristas know to let it sit, sounds like you just needed to wait a minute like the rest of us.
