Update: I paid $75 for a used DVD box set of The Wire and it broke my whole weekend
So I found the full series of The Wire on DVD at a garage sale in Dayton for $75, which felt like a steal since streaming wants a monthly fee just to watch it. I cleared my whole weekend, made a pot of chili, and sat down Friday night ready to binge. Turns out disc 2 of season 1 was so scratched it skipped through half of episode 4, and I had to keep getting up to wipe it with my shirt like it was 2005. By Sunday I had watched maybe six episodes and spent more time fighting the player than actually watching. I ended up ordering the same discs again online for $40 because I was too stubborn to quit, and the new set played fine, go figure. So yeah, the cheap box set saved me nothing and cost me a whole weekend of frustration. My question is, has anyone else bought used discs to binge something and gotten burned, or is it just me being cheap? I want to know if I should just give up and pay for streaming like a normal person.
too stubborn to quit" describes like half my bad decisions, from sketchy lawnmowers to discount tires that turned out to be retreads. Cheap stuff always ends up costing you the thing you actually wanted to save, your time.
