My sister in Boise told me to drop the 3 episode rule and just give shows 20 minutes, and it's working way better
So my sister lives out in Boise and we were on the phone last Monday, mostly talking about nothing, and she brought up how she used to force herself to watch 3 full episodes before deciding if a show was good. She said it felt like homework. Now she gives a show 20 minutes, that's it, and if it hasn't grabbed her by then she moves on guilt free. I pushed back at first because some of my favorite shows start slow, but then I tried it that same night with a crime drama I'd been putting off for months. By the 18 minute mark I was in, hooked, finished the whole season in 4 days. The thing is I used to waste entire weekends on stuff I didn't even like just because I felt like I owed it a fair shot. Now I've blown through 5 shows in 2 weeks and not one dud in the bunch. Has anyone else set a hard time limit like this, and does 20 minutes feel right or would you go shorter?
My wife and I started doing something similar a couple years back and it saved us from so many boring nights. We do 15 minutes, and if neither of us looks up from our phones by then, it's gone, no debate. The funny part is some of the slow burn shows still got their shot because the first 15 minutes had good acting or a weird vibe that kept us curious enough to keep going. What surprised me most is how much it cut down on the fights about what to watch since the timer makes the call for us. 20 sounds fine, but try 15 and see if you even notice the difference.
