My buddy Dave swore I'd hate 'The Wire' if I didn't binge it in one sitting, and he was dead wrong
So back in March my friend Dave kept bugging me to watch The Wire. He said the only way to get it was to binge the whole first season in one weekend, like 13 hours straight, or I'd never follow all the characters. I took his advice and tried it. By episode 4 on Saturday night I was so lost and tired I almost quit. Then a week later I restarted it, just one or two episodes a night, and suddenly everything clicked. The pacing actually works better when you let each episode sit. I ended up finishing all 5 seasons in about 6 weeks and it's now top 3 for me. So now I'm wondering, does anyone else think the whole binge it all at once advice is actually bad for dense shows like this? Or am I just bad at marathons?
Noticed this same thing happens with books too. Everyone acts like you gotta speed read a 900 page novel in a week or you're doing it wrong, but I always remember way more when I take my time and let it breathe. Same deal with podcasts or even just learning a new game, you cram it all in and your brain just dumps half of it. We treat consuming stuff like it's a race or a contest instead of something you're supposed to actually enjoy. Dave probably meant well but rushing through a dense show like The Wire is like chugging a good beer, sure you get it down faster but whats the point lol.
