Is it just me or does everyone quit The Wire in season 2 and miss out?
I have watched The Wire 4 times now and every single person I have tried to get into it bails around episode 3 of season 2 because the whole thing shifts to the docks and they want more of the street crew. But I honestly think that season is the glue that makes seasons 3 and 4 hit so hard, since you understand how the money and the packages actually move. Do you push through the dock season or is it fair to tell a new watcher to just skip to season 3?

Read somewhere that David Simon said season 2 is the one people hate first and love most on rewatch. Makes sense. The docks stuff with Frank Sobotka and the union is the whole reason the Barksdale money trail makes sense later. Tell your friends to push through, skipping to season 3 is like starting a book at chapter 5.
