Vent: my first week in Nashville and my whole apartment flooded from a $15 part I skipped
Moved cross country for a new job and on night three the water heater hose blew, so I was standing in 2 inches of water at 11pm googling shutoff valves with the landlord on speaker. I ended up at a 24 hour hardware store buying a $15 braided hose, and now I ask about the age of every appliance before I sign a lease. Has anyone else had a move go sideways in week one?
My brother moved into a place in Phoenix and the AC died on day two, in July, and the landlord acted like that was just bad luck instead of something you check before renting. Then my cousin had the same thing happen with a fridge that leaked all over her kitchen in week one. I keep seeing this pattern where people spend weeks picking paint colors and furniture but never ask how old the big stuff is, the water heater, the AC, the roof, the pipes. Nobody tells you that moving is mostly just you inheriting problems someone else was too cheap or too lazy to fix. The $15 hose is the cheap part, the real cost is that you now know too much about your landlord and you can never un-know it. That one flood changes how you look at every place after it.
