Moved 900 miles for a job and my car broke down day 3

I packed up my whole life in Cincinnati and drove to Raleigh for a help desk job that sounded great on paper. Third day in, my check engine light came on and the mechanic quoted me $1,400 for a new alternator and belt. I barely had savings left after the security deposit and moving truck rental, so I almost called my old boss to beg for my position back. Instead I found a smaller shop two blocks from my apartment that did it for $850 and even let me pay half upfront. That moment forced me to actually sit down and budget every dollar for the first time in my life. It's been six months now and I'm finally ahead on bills, which feels bigger than the job itself. Has anyone else had a huge move go sideways right at the start but still made it work somehow?
