Dropped $300 on a closet full of interview suits for a job I quit in 6 weeks
Quit my warehouse gig in Allentown last spring to chase a sales job, and the recruiter told me I "needed to look the part" so I blew $300 at Men's Wearhouse on three suits I never wore again. Turns out the office was a call center where everyone wore hoodies, and I lasted 6 weeks before walking out. Anyone else get talked into spending real cash on stuff a new job never actually needed?
Eh, I gotta disagree with the take that the suits were a waste. A recruiter telling you to look the part is pretty normal, and dressing sharp for interviews is just how it works. Sure, three suits at Men's Wearhouse might've been overkill, but you didn't know it was a hoodie call center going in. That's on the company for not being upfront, not on you for prepping. Six weeks or not, showing up in a real suit probably helped you land the offer in the first place. I'd say the lesson is ask better questions before the interview, not skip the suit next time.
