Watched a guy in Tucson true a wheel with a 2x4 and a bungee cord, and it stuck with me
I was at a bike co-op in Tucson maybe 6 years back when a guy rolled in with a rear wheel so far out of true it was rubbing the frame. He didn't have a stand or a tension gauge, just a 2x4 wedged in his bench vise and a bungee holding the axle. Took him about 15 minutes to get it within a millimeter, and the wheel held up for a full season of commuting. I've got a proper Park stand now, but I still think about that setup every time I reach for a spoke wrench. Has anyone else picked up a trick from a co-op that you still use over the fancy stuff?
