My shop neighbor in Boise told me to stop soaking chains in degreaser, 12 bikes later I get it
He runs a small repair stand two doors down and watched me burn through 3 chains in a month on customer bikes. Now I just wipe and relube, anybody else ditch the soak years ago or is he just old school?

Yeah I was that guy too, soaking chains like it was some kind of magic potion that would fix everything. Turns out degreaser strips the lube out of the pins where you can't even reach it, so you're just speeding up the wear while feeling productive. A quick wipe and fresh lube does the same job without wrecking anything, your neighbor just saved you a bunch of money lol.
