Rant: I mailed my friend a cassette mixtape in 1996, and this February I sent her a 47 track playlist link
Back in 1996 I sat in my bedroom in Boise with a dual cassette deck and timed every song so the tape wouldn't cut off mid chorus, which took me about four tries and one wasted 90 minute blank. This February she turned 50 and I built her a 47 track playlist in maybe 20 minutes on my phone, just dragging songs into order while I ate breakfast. The tape version meant she had to be at her stereo to hear it, and the playlist she can play in the car, at work, or while walking her dog. I still feel like I handed her less, even though she got more songs. Did anyone else keep taping things after CDs showed up, or did you switch over right away?
Ha, gotta push back on one thing, you didn't hand her less, you handed her way more. The tape took four tries because of the limit, but the limit is kind of what made it special. 47 songs on shuffle can't hit the same as knowing she had to flip the tape to get to the good part.
