PSA: I fixed my crooked beard line with a random kitchen trick

Been struggling with getting my left side beard line straight for months... no clue why but it always dipped lower than the right. Out of desperation at 2am after closing the restaurant I grabbed a wooden chopstick from my kit and pressed it against my jaw as a guide. Worked perfectly first try, no more guessing where the line should go. Any other barbers got weird tools they use that aren't actually barber tools?

Oh man, the chopstick trick is genius, I gotta try that! I've been using a random popsicle stick from my kid's craft drawer for my own beard line, it's honestly the best thing I've ever grabbed. I mean, I've also used a cheap plastic ruler from the dollar store to check my fade lines, works way better than any expensive tool. It's funny how the weird random stuff in your house ends up being the most useful for this stuff.

A chopstick though, isn't that overthinking a beard line

and honestly that's the thing with barber work or really any skill you learn by doing. once you start looking for solutions you realize the best tools are just the ones that happen to work, not the ones with the barber brand name on them. like, my buddy who's a mechanic says he uses a butter knife more than half his actual wrenches for prying things open. it's all about finding what fits your hand and your problem, you know? the chopstick, the popsicle stick, the dollar store ruler - these are all just shapes that happen to do a job we need done. it's kind of funny how we overthink this stuff and then a random kitchen drawer solves it.
