Pro tip: I used a 1.5 guard on a fade line and it blended way better than my usual 2.

I was rushing a cut last Friday and grabbed the wrong guard, but the result was smoother. Anyone else have a goof that accidentally improved their technique?

Wait, isn't a 1.5 guard shorter than a 2? I mean, if you used it on the fade line, wouldn't that leave a harder line because it cuts more hair off? Maybe the shorter guard just worked better with your specific hair type or how you were holding the clipper. I've done the opposite, where a longer guard saved me from going too short. Sometimes a mistake just shows you a new way to do things, I guess.

Honestly my last self-cut was such a mess I looked like I let a toddler go at it with safety scissors. Tbh the guard numbers might as well be random to me at this point. Guess I found my look by pure luck.

Ha, maybe @taylor.reese is onto something with the whole happy accident thing.

Totally get what you mean about a mistake showing a new way. Like @wren638 said, it's all happy accidents. I once used a longer guard on top than I meant to and it gave me way more texture to work with.
