My first day chair at 23 vs. the kid I trained last month at 38

I started cutting at Ray's shop on Grand Ave back in whatever year that was, feels like another life. Last month I let this 19 year old kid shadow me for a week. He asked why I still use a straight razor on the neck line when shavettes are faster. I told him it was about feel, but honestly I think I just got stuck in my ways. He finished 6 cuts in the time I did 4 and every line was clean. Made me wonder if I've been slowing myself down for no reason over these 20 years. Has anyone else had a young barber make them rethink their whole routine?
