The $140 meal kit box I swore by for 8 months

I used to brag about meal kits saving my weeknight dinners, but then I added up the receipts from EveryPlate and realized I spent $1,120 in 8 months. That's around $14 a plate for food I could've gotten at Aldi for $3. The last box had a wilted basil packet and I finally canceled. Anyone else calculate their subscription costs and feel sick?

The math part checks out, but $14 a plate is a bit high for EveryPlate. Those boxes usually run closer to $8 or $9 per serving when you do the basic plan. Still, the point stands. I did the same thing with HelloFresh last year and almost choked when I saw the yearly total. The wilted basil thing is real too, that's usually the first sign they're cutting corners.
