PSA: My 'quick' attic insulation check turned into a 5-day ordeal

I went up last Tuesday to just peek at the blown-in stuff near the soffits, figured maybe an hour tops. Turns out there was a hidden leak behind the old ductwork that had soaked half the batts, and I spent four more days ripping out soggy fiberglass and patching the gap. Anyone else get blindsided by a supposedly simple home inspection that snowballed like that, or is my house just cursed?

That leak behind the ductwork is the real story here. Did you check the joists and subfloor for rot before you patched the gap, or just cover it up? Wet fiberglass hides a lot of damage, and if that wood has been damp for a while, you might be looking at a bigger fix down the road. The fact that it soaked the batts that badly means it was running for a while, not just a one-time drip. Seems like you dodged a bullet finding it when you did, but I would want to know how long that water had been sitting there. Make sure you got the source fixed properly, not just the visible mess.
